The firm is specialized in damage detection and has a patent on system identification and damage detection as the solid academic background of the inspections.

The fundamental purpose of any inspection and repair is to provide the information necessary to assess the condition (capacity, safety, and rate of deterioration) of the building that is possible to be conducted by the visual inspection.

Although the level of inspection determines the extent of information to be provided, in general, the inspection for the future extensions or rehabilitation projects addresses the following. However, this inspection can show the current condition of the building:

• Identification and description of all damage and deterioration.
• Estimation of the extent of damage and deterioration.
• Identification of any problems associated with mobilization of equipment, personnel for the future extensions.
• Recommendations for required Strengthening, Modification, and Repair (SMR).

There are six major types and causes of structural deterioration:

• Thermal Expansion or any repeating load cycles beyond of design expectancy.
• Settlement of differential settlement
• Loosening of structural connections or elements due to corrosion, fatigue, wind turbulence, or overstressing.
• Overloading or experiencing the past earthquakes.

After the field survey and inspections, the building has been studied and reported in three different states:

• The reason for any cracks or deterioration.
• The current condition of the building.
• The required studies for the building upgrading according to the current structural engineering code for the future extension/use.
